What you need to know before exposing prod services on
smartphones/tablets
SPEAKER: Greg Kelly, Oracle Product Strategy Manager
Some consider that smartphones and tablet, from the point of view of production system access are
where desktop and laptop were about 10 years ago. The OS’s are still considered “leaky” and in a BYOD
world you have no control over what users are doing with their own devices, including loading “free”
software with unknown back door features. Do you remember “Lounge Lizard Larry” in
the early PC days?
The protection considered as available from VPN and HTTPS depend on where
the network/encryption demarcation layers exist in the device. For instance VPN
can provide a protected tunnel from a compromised device directly into your
backend.
In the same way that you manage anti-virus and anti-malware and access
restrictions on corporate supplied devices, you have to put protection in place to
protect your users from themselves and your internal infrastructure from
careless or deliberately abusive BYOD users.

Destination “BI Pub Expert”: Breaking through the
BI Plateau
SPEAKER: Anna Kourouniotis, Data Administration Analyst
Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher (formerly known as XML Publisher) is a
popular reporting solution amongst colleges and universities across the HEUG.
In fact, according to the Reporting Tools Survey Results (published on the
Reporting and Business Intelligence Blog on February 5, 2018) PeopleSoft BI
Publisher is the second mostly used Oracle Reporting Tool (first being PS
Query). If you are a report developer, you know the benefits along with the
occasional trials of working with this tool. Furthermore, as an experienced report
developer you may have also come across situations where the basics just don’t
cut it.
