On the the following pages are links to information about innovative features in Campus Solutions and PeopleTools. Some are already in use, and some are available now but not yet implemented.
Click here to see an overview of some interesting new tools in Query, BI Publisher, and Batch Processing.
You can use the links below to open pages that give a further explanation of the feature and which have links to documentation on the subject. Note that the features that are now in use cover many blog pages with extensive documentation.
-
Activity Guide
- Activity Guide is a PeopleTools framework that provides a structure to allow the definition of a guided step-by-step task that can be assigned to a user (student or administrative staff) for completion.
- It creates opportunities for the user to view or quickly access information that supports or extends a business task.
- It ties together different types of content such as queries, component data, external web pages, etc.
-
BI Publisher (XML Publisher)
- BI Publisher (formerly XML Publisher or XMLP) is a template-based reporting tool that you can use with PeopleSoft to directly take information from the database (generally through PS Query) to author, manage and deliver reports and forms more easily and faster than traditional reporting tools.
- You can view reports online or schedule and deliver documents to various recipients. A report can be output to email, a printer, the web, or a file. With a single template, it can generate reports in many formats, such as PDF, RTF, Excel, and HTML.
-
Common Attribute Framework (CAF)
- A structured means to extend delivered data without customizing delivered record definitions or creating a bolt-on.
- It allows users to add unique fields without customizing or creating a bolt-on. The fields can be from within the institution and third party data sources.
- The CAF gives users the tools to create a variety of field types to be added where needed.
- It is a way to retain extended data through PS upgrades and delivered changes.
-
Communication Generation (Comm Gen)
- Communication Generation (Comm Gen) is a feature in Campus Solutions which allows you to communicate with constituents through letters and emails.
- The Communication Generation process lets you select specific fields from which to extract critical data for a letter code assigned to the individual (or organization) IDs for whom you want to generate a communication.
- With BI Publisher as part of the process, Comm Gen enables a user to manage and merge XML document templates and communication data source files for the process to generate communications.
-
Milestones
- While Student Milestones have been in use for some time, there have been some enhancements made in the Campus Solutions Bundles that you should be aware of
-
Population Selection (Pop Select) and Pop Update
-
Pop Select is a delivered process that allows users to fine tune the selecting of person (and/or organization) IDs in several batch processes. It provides users with the ability to choose the population they wish to process and to preview that population before a process is executed. For example, Pop Select can be used as a batch process to run 3C Engine items. It can also be used to place and release Service Indicators.
- Pop Update is the ability to update data for a group of people (or organizations) from a list (external file), PS Query, or Equation. It allows a user to first specify the selection of a population, and then choose the field values to be updated or inserted for that population.

Query and Reporting Features
- Composite Query and Connected Query are delivered, advanced Query tools that allow you to combine two or more existing PeopleSoft queries in parent/child relationships. (Composite Query was introduced with PeopleTools 8.54.)
- Drilling URL is an expression that contains a URL. It drills down to another object. It is defined by selecting Query, Menu, Component, Page, Portal Object, or URL of choice
- Pivot Grid enables users to visually display data in different views by pivoting a filtering. It uses PeopleSoft Query as the Data Source.
- Reporting Tools changes
- Click this link to the QUERY page to open the section in the SFIS Blog documenting Query’s currently available features.

- Work Center pages can integrate all pages that users need to access in one location.
- It allows cross functional multitasking without losing focus.
